  • Blueberries

Blueberries are not just native to North America, they’re native to British Columbia. So much so that BC is the second largest producer of blueberries in the entire world. These plump, round, dark blue berries are among the superest of the so-called super-fruits. Chock full of nutrients like vitamin C and E, they’re also low in calories.

Eat them fresh, make them into jam or cook them into tempting and tasty cobblers and pies. Not only are they easy to freeze, they also keep their nutritional value even when frozen.

    Availability: June to September.

  • Grapes

The Okanagan’s booming wine industry would indicate that the local climate is quite conducive to growing grapes. At BC Tree Fruits, we grow Coronation grapes. They’re a variety resembling Concord, without the seeds or the tartness. Coronations are great for eating fresh, but they can also be used in any recipe that calls for berries. Especially blueberries. You can even freeze them and enjoy this succulent summer fruit all year long.

Keep an eye out for our table varieties too. They’re perfect for eating fresh or for sauces and jams. We love to add them to salads of all types for an extra burst of goodness.

Availability: August until the end of October.

  • Mangos

Originating in India, Mangos have been cultivated for thousands of years. Depending on variety, mangos come in many shades or combination of colours: from red to orange to yellow to green. When ripe, they show a yellow overtone and have a lovely fragrance.

This luscious tropical fruit is truly versatile. It can be served fresh in salsas or salads and it’s excellent when used in a stir-fry or other meat dishes. And it can even be baked in breads and muffins. We like to freeze them for use in jams and smoothies.

    Availability: April to June.
